John is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is based in our Minneapolis office and is a member of the Business Litigation Section. John is an accomplished trial lawyer and represents clients in the areas of:

John regularly represents clients in business disputes, as well as members of the legal and medical communities in professional matters. He has more than 30 years of experience handling medical malpractice claims, prescription drug and pharmacy matters, products liability and issues relating to the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and the federal False Claims Act. He is frequently chosen as a mediator in business disputes and employment, commercial and injury cases.

John is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has been repeatedly listed in Minnesota Super Lawyers and relatedly, one of the designation’s top 100 “Super Lawyers", as seen in Minnesota Law & Politics. John was named a 2009 "Attorney of the Year" by Minnesota Lawyer and he has also been named a Top 40 Business Litigation Super Lawyer and a “Leading American Attorney.” John is listed in Who's Who in America.

John is a civil trial specialist certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and he is certified as a Minnesota Rule 114 neutral. He is president of the William Mitchell College of Law Alumni Board and a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. John also is a member of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota, past president of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and past president and board member of Creative Dispute Resolution. He is a master for the Warren E. Burger Chapter of the Inns of Court. John is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota, American and Federal Bar associations and is admitted to practice before the Minnesota Federal District Court, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, John received his B.A. at the University of Minnesota and earned his J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law. He has practiced law in the Twin Cities for more than 30 years.
