Peter Riley grew up with the law – inspired by his parents, both of whom were attorneys. His father served as a Judge for the Hennepin County District Court from 1965 until his retirement in 1986.

Peter graduated in 1974 from Williams College, in Williamstown, Massachusetts. After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Economics and Psychology, Peter attended the University of Minnesota Law School, graduating cum laude in 1977. While at the University, he was a member of the Law Review. While in college, he was elected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Peter has dedicated himself exclusively to representing victims of injury or wrongful death. The many cases he has handled include several arising out of the sinking of the ore freighter Edmund Fitzgerald. In addition, Peter recovered over $1,000,000 for a young woman struck and severely injured by an uninsured motorist. He has also negotiated important settlements for victims of a variety of accidents, including over $225,000 for a young man whose hand was injured by a farm auger, a jury verdict of $450,000 for a victim of medical malpractice, $1,000,000 for the family of a man killed in a boat collision, and over $1,100,000 for the family of a construction worker killed in a building collapse. He also concluded a settlement of over $11,000,000 for a young woman severely injured in a car crash, and recently recovered $3,400,000 for a man seriously injured in a collision with a semi-tractor trailer.

Peter has been awarded the “AV” rating by the nationally recognized Martindale – Hubbell Law Directory. This is the highest rating achievable for legal ability and for faithful adherence to ethical standards, professional reliability, and diligence. He has also been named a Leading Minnesota Attorney and “Super Lawyer” in handling personal injury claims. In addition, Peter has been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation only organization of skilled and experienced trial lawyers, and served as president of the Minnesota ABOTA chapter in 2007. In 2010, he was named to the ABOTA national board where he continues to serve. Peter is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Peter is listed in the book “Best Lawyers in America” by Woodward/White in the area of Personal Injury practice, and was named an Attorney of the Year in 2004 by the Minnesota Lawyer newspaper. He has been a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice since 1977 and served as its president in 2004.

Peter is a frequent lecturer in the field of injury and wrongful death, and he teaches for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He has also served as an on-air fundraiser for the Twin Cities public television service, TPT, since 1977.
